More options to format and customize table of contents in Google Docs! These enhancements help you to personalize the content of your document better.
Now you are able to:
1. choose between three default styles:
- plain text
- dotted
- links
2. change tab leader styles
3 change heading levels.
How to insert a table of contents:
Check that you have titles/headings in your document (at the top, click 'normal text' > click a heading style, and the heading will be added to the outline).
On the top menu, click Insert > Table of contents > choose the suitable option
Right-click the newly created table of contents and select “Table of contents options” to open the sidebar.

Availability: Available to all Google Workspace customers
Timeline:
Rapid Release domains: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting on March 20, 2023
Scheduled Release domains: Full rollout (1–3 days for feature visibility) starting April 3, 2023
